The History of the Toyoshinkyu College of Oriental Medicine
The Toyoshinkyu College of Oriental Medicine was founded by Sorei Yanagiya, a global authority on the medicine of acupuncture and moxibustion. His instruction of future generations of practitioners spanned from the early-to-mid twentieth century. In founding Toyoshinkyu, Yanagiya was not only cognizant of communicating to future generations a breadth of educational experience and research-based results in this academic field, but also conscious of making a contribution that bettered society.

1949 | Inaugurated as the Takushoku University Seimei High School Manual Therapy Department |
1957 | Established as the independent Toyoshinkyu College of Oriental Medicine Sorei Yanagiya made the first school president Establishment of an acupuncture and moxibustion course, an anma/massage/shiatsu course, and a judo therapy course. |
1959 | Masao Maruyama made the second school president Yoshio Manaka made the third school president |
1960 | Toyoshinkyu College of Oriental Medicine school buildings established on the grounds of Yanagiya’s former home in Kabukicho (Nishi-Okubo), Shinjuku. |
1971 | Nobuyasu Ishino made the fourth school president |
1985 | Reorganization into the Sorei Gakuen Educational Foundation Toyoshinkyu College of Oriental Medicine Shogo Ishino made the fifth school president Establishment of the Acupuncture, Moxibustion, and Anma Course |
1995 | Move into the current campus buildings |
2000 | Establishment of the Toyoshinkyu No. 2 Building (containing an auditorium) |
2001 | Establishment of the Acupuncture and Moxibustion Course (This Acupuncture and Moxibustion Course is unique to the Toyoshinkyu College of Oriental Medicine) |
2003 | Shohachi Tanzawa made the sixth school president |
2005 | Establishment of the Toyoshinkyu No. 3 Building. Clinical facilities renovated. |
2007 | Opening of the Sorei Memorial Hall |
2009 | Akizo Okada made the seventh school president |
2010 | Establishment of the practical training complex |
2011 | Hironao Takeuchi made the eighth school president The Acupuncture, Moxibustion, and Anma Course is renamed to the Acupuncture, Moxibustion, and Anma/Massage/Shiatsu Course |
