Sorei Memorial Hall
Sorei Memorial Hall
The Sorei Memorial Hall opened on 15 April 2007 as a project to commemorate both 100 years since Sorei Yanagiya’s birth and 50 years since the founding of Toyoshinkyu. Panel displays prominently feature the 52-year life of Sorei Yanagiya, as well as his comrades from the world of Showa period acupuncture and moxibustion. Yanagiya was a fortunate adventurer through the upheaval of Showa period acupuncture and moxibustion – a period punctuated by the Second World War. The Memorial Hall’s collection includes Sorei Yanagiya’s books, papers written in his own hand, items regularly used by Yanagiya, as well as unique acupuncture needles. The Memorial Hall is available for viewing through advance reservation. We hope a visit to the Hall will provide an opportunity for visitors to experience Sorei Yanagiya’s extraordinary humanity and spark reflection on the struggle to establish Showa period acupuncture and moxibustion. It is our sincere desire that this experience might become a seed to foster Yanagiya’s spirit in the future of acupuncture and moxibustion.
